Updated July 5, 2023

The much-awaited construction of the Our Lady of Namulenga High School has begun in earnest. The delay in breaking ground was due to the devastation caused by the spring cyclone (Cyclone Freddy) in the Blantyre region of Malawi.

Now that the damaging effects of the cyclone has abated, the Malawian contractor, SITBEC Construction, has finally cleared the entire site. They have been busy producing the cement blocks needed for the project. In addition, excavation of the footings is ongoing for the initial set of buildings, which include classrooms, administration block, laboratories, and staff houses. The excavation/digging of the footings for each building is being done manually by hand and requires about seven days of work.

In early July, the contractor hopes to begin pouring the footings for the buildings, and the walls will follow soon after.

Below are some photos of ongoing work on the site.
